A love letter to ‘The Office’

’Tis the end of an era.

I happen to think that I was born in perfect timing to enjoy the best era of TV comedy shows. We got The Office. Modern Family. Parks & Recreation. Arrested Development. New Girl. Community. HIMYM. A totally different league than the sit-coms of the 80’s and 90’, am I right?? (I mean, who in their right minds actually thought Full House, Who’s the Boss?, or Blossom was laugh-out-loud funny?) The Office is a show I’m truly gonna be proud to hand over to the next generation in the form of reruns.

I’ll be honest: I didn’t jump on the wagon until season 6, but the show has been a trusted companion ever since and I’ve watched seasons 1-8 probably two or three times all the way through. It’s a little bit embarrassing how attached I’ve become to these characters…

the office

I’m always going to associate The Office with Cuba, because watching a few episodes was my favorite way to end the day. Yup, that’s right, I watched the show daily for 4 months straight – no exceptions. I think the reason I loved it so much in Cuba particularly was because no matter how crazy life got outside of my little apartment, ‘The Office’ always put things in perspective for me.

I thought I had a rough day when my excursion coach full of eager clients broke down in the middle of nowhere and we had to hitch-hike with another random bus to get to Pinar Del Rio. Then Michael burned his foot on a George Foreman grill. Perspective.

I thought it was kind of a drag that I was homeless for the first couple of weeks because the head of the Tourism Ministry was away on business in Switzerland and thus couldn’t sign the required paper to get me a hotel room. Then Ryan and Kelly got back together, again. Perspective.

I thought it was a little crazy that we waited more than a month to be permitted an internet connection in our office. Then Dwight caught a bat in a bag around Meredith’s head. Perspective.

Dunder-Mifflin gang, I adore you and I will miss you terribly! Thanks for all the laughs over the years – I owe you.

And just know that if you’re ever in need of a mental hug, just go to Youtube and type “the office bloopers”. You’re welcome.

Xx Christine

In true Happy Camper spirit, I’ll be posting weekly love letters 🙂  They could be about anything really, anything that made me happy at some point (and most likely still does). My intention is simply to shine a big, bright spotlight on the good things in life!
